The Results Reporting Dashboard in MMS has been updated to provide clearer guidance, improved usability, and additional reporting context for staff involved in module results reporting.

These enhancements have been designed in response to feedback from Schools and aim to make the reporting process more intuitive while supporting stronger oversight and governance during module boards.

Who can use the dashboard?

The dashboard is available to staff involved in the module results reporting process, including:

  • Directors of Teaching
  • School Exams Officers
  • Heads of School
  • Other authorised staff involved in module board activity and results reporting

The dashboard supports Schools in reviewing module outcomes before results are formally reported.

What can users expect from the updated dashboard?

Clearer guidance on reporting expectations

The explanatory guidance beneath the dashboard has been expanded to provide clearer information about when written commentary is required.

A comment is now required where:

  • Fewer than 5% or more than 30% of students have obtained a grade of 16.5 or above
  • The highest grade awarded is below 16.9
  • There is significant grade bunching, where 80% or more of grades fall between 14–16
  • The mean or median grade is below 12 for Honours modules
  • The module board has adjusted module outcomes

These criteria are also now visible to School Exams Officers, helping Schools identify and resolve issues earlier in the reporting process.

Improved usability

Several changes have been made to make the reporting workflow more intuitive:

  • The button previously labelled “Update Comment” has been renamed “Save Selection”
  • The comment text box is now always visible
  • Optional contextual comments can now be entered even when commentary is not formally required
  • Mandatory comments are still enforced where reporting criteria require them

These changes reduce confusion and allow Schools to provide additional context where helpful.

Expanded trend reporting

The dashboard graph has also been enhanced to provide up to six instances of historical module trend data.

This additional context supports:

  • trend identification,
  • comparison across cohorts,
  • and the identification of unusual grade distributions or outliers.

The enhancement aligns more closely with assessment policy expectations around longitudinal review of module outcomes.

Reporting results: step-by-step

The reporting workflow remains familiar, with a few improvements.

Step 1: Review the dashboard

Users should begin by reviewing:

  • the grade distribution bar chart,
  • historical module trends,
  • and the explanatory reporting criteria displayed beneath the dashboard.

Step 2: Determine whether commentary is required

Consider whether the module results meet any of the criteria requiring additional explanation.

If commentary is required, this must be recorded before results can be reported.

Step 3: Enter comments if appropriate

The comment field is now always available.

Users may:

  • enter mandatory comments where required,
  • or provide optional contextual information to support understanding of module outcomes.

Step 4: Save the selection

Select “Save Selection” to save the commentary status and any accompanying text.

Step 5: Report results

Once satisfied that all information is complete, select “Report Results” to finalise the reporting process.

Supporting clearer and more consistent reporting

These enhancements aim to reduce avoidable confusion, improve transparency during results reporting, and provide Schools with greater context when reviewing module outcomes.

The updated dashboard supports both usability and governance, while helping Schools document and explain assessment outcomes more effectively.
