In a continuous effort to promote academic integrity and transparency, the University of St Andrews is taking strides to enhance its approach to handling misconduct warnings. As part of this initiative, the university is simplifying its reporting process by removing predefined categories and allowing users to provide more detailed information about the nature of the misconduct.

Traditionally, misconduct warnings were categorized into distinct types, each corresponding to specific behaviors such as plagiarism, multiple submissions, or falsification. While these categories served as a useful framework for identifying common forms of misconduct, they also posed limitations in capturing the complexity and nuances of individual cases.

Misconduct officers responsible for creating warnings will now see only one type of warning on the dashboard, streamlining the process and reducing complexity.

By removing predefined categories, the university aims to encourage greater specificity and accuracy in reporting, ensuring that each case is thoroughly understood and appropriately addressed. By allowing for greater flexibility and adaptability, the university remains better equipped to address the evolving challenges and complexities of academic integrity in today’s digital age.
